My recent work is a process of distillation.

I believe the moment of epiphany is a perception where the essence of time parallels our own conscience. That moment of epiphany can happen in a flick of a second, during an intellectual transition when one is not fully aware of passing time. The perception involves how we mentally process information, internal and external to the perceiver. Perception of the external world begins with the senses, which lead one to generate empirical concepts representing the surrounding environment within a mental framework relating new concepts to preexisting ones.

I layer objects which transcend the moment of self consciousness in conjunction with the free flow of Chinese calligraphy. I strive to order each stroke as perhaps a calligrapher would: to carry the weight and free the flow. I take the meaning of each word intensely seriously. Word and language are supposed to mean what they were intended to mean when they were created. Words- how things 'mean' something, and words in their truest form are important not just because they are used in everyday life. Language shapes human development, from earliest childhood to the last breath. Notions of self, experience, and existence may depend entirely on how language is used and what is learned through it. Knowledge itself intertwines with language, and both validate the distillation experience.

My search for an innate sense of balance combines "calmness" with "aggression" within the surface. I purposely extend the flat painting beyond the surface, dispensing with façade, brush strokes and collage. The images suggest being fixed in time and resonate with a sense that their age and subject matter evoke.
